The ONE Website Change That Will Get You More Customers Online

May 28, 2019 by Ashley Terstriep

I’m not one to promise quick fixes or overnight success, but there is one change that you can make to your website that will immediately result in more sales.

Are you ready for it?

The easiest way to get more sales from your website is to create headlines that tell visitors how to become a customer.

Too many websites have fluffy headlines.

You know the ones I’m talking about – they don’t actually describe what the business does, or they offer pointless information that you don’t actually care about.

I get it: you’re afraid of being too “salesy”. You’re terrified of coming on too strong and turning off potential customers.

This mindset is actually hurting your business and your customers. By shying away from selling yourself and your business online, you’re actually confusing your customers by not telling them what you want them to do!

Your ideal customers WANT to be sold to, but you aren’t giving them that opportunity.

They’re visiting your website because they want to work with you or buy your products. You are their guide, and they are waiting for you to tell them what their next step should be!

Your website copy should directly tell visitors how they can become a customer. Your headlines need to actually ASK for the sale.

So here’s what you need to do to get more sales online with just ONE simple website change:

Step 1: Establish Your Goal

Define the ONE goal that you want to accomplish in your business right now. Are you a travel agent who wants more clients? Do you own a restaurant and want to get more customers in the door? Write out that goal!

Step 2: Define The Steps

What steps does a potential customer take to get from where they landed on your website to completing your goal?

Maybe your clients fill out a contact form, or maybe they usually sign up for your email list before committing to working with you. If you’re a local brick and mortar business, your next step could be a “call now” button on your website. It all depends on your individual business!

Step 3: Identify The Value You Bring To Your Customers

What do your customers want to get out of working with you? What problem do you solve for them?

If you can’t answer this question, this is a sign that you need to learn more about your target customers. The best way to do this is to ask questions! Contact past customers and ask them why they chose to work with you or why they needed your specific service or product.

The best headlines are emotional AND physical – define a tangible benefit that your customers will get out of working with you along with how they will feel when they have it!

Step 4: Build Your Headline

Combine your “next step” with your value statement to create the perfect headline for your website.

Your value statement is the headline text, and your next step is the call to action button. It’s as simple as that!

How I Use This In My Own Business

The current headline of my website is “Stand Out and Get More Customers Online”.

My customers work with me because they feel like their business is lost in a saturated market, and they want a brand and website that makes them stand out to their potential customers. Ultimately, they want to make more money and get more customers online.

The call to action button is “Schedule a FREE Consultation”.

The first step to working with me is to schedule a free consultation.

Creating an effective headline and directly asking for a sale is the number one thing you can do to get more customers online through your website!

It’s time to stop being afraid of coming on too strong and start creating headlines that actively guide your website visitors towards becoming a customer.
